Reasons why a makeup trial is SO important

A lot of the time when you are paying out for a big event, the last thing you want is to spend more money than you had planned. Many of my clients are usually hesitant when booking a trial for that very reason. You think it’s just another way for someone to make a bit more money right? The thing is, most hair and makeup artists will agree with me that it is really not about the money, more about ensuring the makeup on the day goes smoothly and there are no hiccups.

Since working with more and more clients, I’ve made the bridal trial mandatory and the total cost is with the trial included in the package. This is just as beneficial for me, as it for you.

  1. Trialling the products
A really important (and most overlooked) reason for a trial is the small chance that you could be allergic to a product(s) that your artist may use. While most professional makeup artists will try to work with mainly hypoallergenic products, you never know if a certain ingredient doesn’t agree with you skin. Your wedding or event day is not the day to discover a possible reaction!
  2. Feeling comfortable
You want to ensure that your makeup artist makes you feel at ease while creating a beautiful look that is the desired style you requested. It’s important to feel comfortable with them, as they are part of such a special day for you. I always like to be certain that she is entirely happy with the makeup; the trial is the perfect opportunity to tweak things until they are right for you.
  3. Creating the perfect look
Some brides may not be sure on how to wear their makeup for their wedding day. You could be torn between a few ideas or not have a clue at all! I am able to advise and guide you through what I think will suit you best, taking your skin tone/face shape, preferences, wedding style into account. This will also reduce the time of application on the day, as I would already know what products to use and have ready. This can save a lot of valuable time! Some of my brides have had more than one trial to try out different styles.
  4. Makeup artist preparations
Sometimes you may find that even the artists with an extensive kit could have to purchase certain products ahead of time to achieve the final look for your skin type or face shape. Or if you have certain products you’d like to be used, this allows time for the makeup artist to be fully prepared.
  5. Discussing final details
Finally, at your trial you can talk through any small details your artist may need to know. I like to plan out the wedding day with my bride at her trial, this confirms we both know exactly what will happen on the day.

I think a lot of the time clients believe the trial is a bit of a hassle, it may mean you could have to adjust your budget slightly but I can assure you that it will be well worth it! By knowing exactly how the day will go and what products will be used, both you and your makeup artist can be confident that you will look and feel your best on that special day!

I hope this has given you some explanations as to why a trial is so important, this doesn’t just apply to brides, but also proms and anyone wanting to ensure their special event goes smoothly!
